All the good stuff on PA474 here today made me think that there might be some interest in this picture of a Manchester on Ebay Deutschland:
Yes, there was one of these about 50% full size, known as the “10 bob” or “half a squid”
Sorry – I’ll just get me coat
I have also found reference to a “Flt Lt W L M Dick” associated with a 102 Sqn Halifax RG498 lost on 15th March on a raid on Bottrop.
This may be a total red herring, but maybe somebody has a better reference than mine who could shed some more light?
He is also mentioned at Issue 37914 published on the 21 March 1947. Page 5 of 8
On Appointment to the reconstituted RAuxAF:
Flight Lieutenants retaining their rank:
WHA Dick DFC (133416) 14th Feb 1947

The unfortunate thing is that the MoD will lead the way with paying for development costs etc and then others will reap the rewards!!
If the MoD apply their normal terms of business, when they pay for development they expect a license fee from the use of that design elsewhere
I don’t think it is fair to invade the privacy of the owner by revealing any more – I guess it would be a fairly mundane piece of information anyway!
Again, appreciations once again for your assistance & glad that it has sparked some interest.
Sorry. It’s not mine to sell.
Rocketeer – thanks for the information.
I’m afraid it is not available
Re thread title “Bader Spin Off” should this not be “Bader spun in??”
According to my references was marked CF-O
Thanks for the advice, I will give it a go, although no chance of cannon on a Mk1 Hurri!
“All went well with an initial mission in a Hurricane in France (wooden two-blade prop version) in support of the BEF during Spring 1940.
Mission two was simply to get the same Hurri, now a little care-worn, back to blighty. Simple enough task I thought and planned a logical route back with the intention of crossing Cap Gris Nez to Dover as any pilot of a damaged single might do.”
Interesting, I have just got CFS3s with the same add -on, no probs getting back from France, but cannot get to grips with the bombers on the initial mission, I always get shot down. I thought those He111’s were only meant to have a couple of miserable pop- guns pointing out the back?? 🙂
