Nah….the real skill would be landing the B-52 on the carrier…..;-)
Well, you’ve got something of a point about non-essential car jouneys. However, if you’re living in a rural part of the country, served by a bus service offering a bus every one or two hours with the nearest bus stop a quarter of a mile away, you may be forgiven for buying a second hand car.
For many in rural parts, a car is pretty neccessry, esp for work purposes.

Sea Vixen, there’s no such thing as passive weight gain from seeing eating a man eating a full English. As for lorries and cars, one can argue that at least a motor vehicle produces pollution as a negative by – product of useful activity. What useful activity (other than an enjoyable high) does smoking generate???

Oh dear, it’s turned ugly…..bound to happen.

Who said no-one sympathised with the IRA?? The IRA got massive support and $$$ from sypathisers in the US.
The Brits were seen by some as an occupying oppressor, just as some see Israel. How do you define a military target? In Belfast, (London)Derry and other places, a local building contractor could be seen as a legit military target and attacked by the IRA just for having a contract with the British Army or the as it was then, the RUC (Royal Ulster Constabulary). The owner of the said building contractor may never of put on an Army or police uniform in his life.

The Canadians would have far more fighters thats for sure. Prob would have gotten F-106’s and F-4’s.
USAF bases would have been perhaps placed in the Yukon and British Columbia.
Soviet IRBM’s in Alaska. Along with several hundred fighters, Mig’s and Sukhois.
Sporadic dogfights and shoot downs between US / Canadian F-101’s, F-102’s, F-104’s, F-106’s, F-4’s and Soviet MiG 17’s, 19’s, 21’s and Su-9’s, 11’s and 15’s.
Cold War parinoia even worse than it’s height in the 50’s and 60’s.
You know, I think the F-15E series has the best non stealthy way of weapon carriage of any tactical A/C. Not only does it carry a lot on those FAST pack pylons, it can carry a varied load with low drag too.

Not a good name for Britain. Who wants a fighter with the same name as one of the most notorious serial killers in recent british history, the Yorkshire Ripper (Peter Sutcliffe)??
What about F-35 “Raider” or F-35 “Terminator”??
What happened to the F-25, F-26, F-27 etc..??? Why the massive jump from F-22 to F-35??
Swerve has a point. I have read that during Red Flag excercises, opposing supersonic F-5’s could have trouble catching a Buccaneer at low level.
Fulcrum, in addition to the A-5 Vigi, you omitted the Mig-25, Su-27, and Concorde. SOC is quite right. The A-5 was the first A/C to have such intakes. This inspired the Mig-25.
Partly because of this, the A-5 still looks good to this day…
