Dont think its Maltas, though could be or could be Steve Milnthorpe’s example, before it went east (definitely not Robs Lamplough’s Mk IV)

Of course it can’t be anything at Hawker Restorations…….

well if we are going that way…..its not BBMF, not Sea Hurricane (no arrestor hook cut out)…..I think its looks to nice to be the second Rochester rebuild….could be first but I don’t think so. Its not Breighton’s example when it was at Autocraft either…..it could be G-ORGI during sometime….I shall have to think further!

Easy peasy to dismantle these:
Step one clean gunge from nuts,
Step two undo carefully with correct size socket, leaving one or two turns on each nut tap lightly working around clockwise (do this after undoing all four nuts)
You may need to use a blunt flat screwdriver to break the bead….this is a split rim wheel, so it will come in half. Then remove nuts and the two parts will come apart. If you have any probs, I’ll help….dismantled about20 of these puppies

What about historic types still in service, such as the Harvard and HS748… Do they count?

Flew in Harvard KF183 the other week, and as the tower at a well known museum in Cambridgeshire asked our registration, he was pleasantly suprised to find the pilot announcing “the only Harvard in military service in the world*”

*maybe – although I suspect some are flown as members of historic flights…

A big clear out of my Grandads workshop today i found two wheels one is in what looks to be in very good condition the other not to bad . My dad said last time he had seen them was over 30+ years ago and was told they was spit tail wheels .Could anyone have a look at the pics and confirm what they are from ?

Lovely pair of Spit tailwheels there, one with a nice Palmer Aero tyre. AH2184

Popham was fine for me as I cleared out some dross, bought a few more pilots notes to add to my extensive collection. As Melvyn says, the heady days of Yeovilton are long gone (the days when I bought a seat for my Hurri for £15!!). The odd bargain can still be had. Wish I’d taken my camera. Saw Melvyn but couldn’t get too close due to 1000s of autograph hunters!! Highlights for me were the Prentice and Miles and my daughters locking the keys in the boot!!!

Nice lists chaps….

Hunter T7 (several times including inverted spinning, the cockpit of one is in a museum)
Hawk (loads, a bit modern but the cockpit of one is preserved)
Mirage III
Shackleton, Wessex, Stearman, Harvard (several times), Jaguar (loads…typeto be retired soon), DC3, Scout, BAC111, Good ol’Bertie bassett!…its late, bed calls and my log book is not too hand…Popham tomorrow…hurrah

Nice shots!
The Teddy on the B17 was Ted White’s personal logo. It was kept as a tribute to the great man after his untimely death, like the yellow/black checker board on Sally B’s engine cowl.

Me 109 1190 has a Mercedes Benz badge which is not original, but does the job, It is based on a modern day Merc lorry/van badge.

It was ok, sold some stuff to get some dosh in for the projects. Buying wise, I missed a cheap reflector sight (boxed £60) and some nice APs, but bought one or two nice pieces.

Popham hopefully will be good/fun. There are lots of other things to see and do, and of course it does not involve such a long drive!

I would love to take my Hunter too, and that is my aim. I’m desperately trying to get it into a state fit to display though as, at present, it just isn’t safe – too many exposed cut edges, sharp bits etc. where it was chopped. Time is in short supply but I’m going to give it a damned good try. If all else fails and I can’t bring the cockpit I’ll construct an information display showing the history of the aeroplane etc. and display the bang seat, mannequin with appropriate flying kit, models, photos etc..

I spoke to Robertsbridge who are seriously considering it.
