Talking of Duxford, I’m planning to go there on Saturday 6th March. It’s my birthday on the 7th, so I thought I’d treat myself, not having been for 3 years+. If anyone wants to meet up there (Steve Y?) you’re more than welcome.
Needless to say, you’re all welcome to meet up at our museum, we’re open every Sunday, 11th April to last Sunday in September. If you’re that desparate to see me 😎 it’s best to check if I’m going to be there that Sunday.
Geoff.
Yes, now you mention it, I wonder if they have more interviews with other civilians or CD workers? Perhaps they intended to have the veterans plus those who saw the battle from the ground in the programme, but dropped the idea for some reason.
Why don’t you email RDF & see what they say about putting them on the DVD?
Geoff.
Yes Dave, they arrived at the museum today, much to their puzzlement 😀
I wonder if the IWM would swop it for two Short Sturgeon wheels!!
Geoff.
Didn’t the early Ju87s have a trousered undercarriage? Not sure what a Stuka’s inside leg measurement was though?
M**y T****s f*r a*l t*e i**o g**s.
G***f 😀
RobAnt,
I think you’ll find that due to cutbacks, the second ‘n’ was declared surplus to requirements and sold-off to the highest bidder. 😀
Geoff
The double negative is a complete no-no.
Dunlop have replied to my Email, and the wheels are indeed for the Short Sturgeon. In which case they are rather off-topic for our museum. If anyone out there would like them, I’m sure we would be open to a swop for something more relevant to the museum.
Geoff.
Why did they make them out of Jet anyway?
You could always apply for a copy of his RAF personnel records, I assume you have his full name & service number? You will also need his nearest N-O-K to sign a form. The cost will be £25.
The address to write to is
PMA (CS)2a(2)b(RAF)
Building 248,
HQ RAF Personnel & Training Command,
RAF Insworth
Gloucester
GL3 1EZ
Just enclose a brief letter asking for a copy of whatever personnel records they retain for him, giving his full name, rank, and service number, the fact that he lost his life during the war, and the name/relationship of the NoK that will be signing the consent form. If you are making the aplication rather than they, then you will need them to sign a letter giving you permission to apply for the records.
Any problems – send me a pm.
Geoff.
Thanks guys.
I have sent off an email to Dunlop Aerospace, with the details I posted in my first post. Let’s hope they can confirm what you say.
If they are Sturgeon wheels then I expect that they will be looking for a new home. Don’t suppose anyone has a Sturgeon they’re restoring, and which they need some wheels for? I’m sure we would be willing to swop them for something more relevant to our museum.
Geoff.
I’m a genuine part-time night worker, only 18 hrs a week, at A**A (Dammed if I’m giving them any free publicity).
Geoff.
Kev,
Apparently the Czechs only have the 310 sqdn ORB from March 1943 on, poss for the reason you mention.
I will see if he’s interested in the ORB on microfilm, but I think he’s only after the odd page or two, rather than huge chunks, so if anyone can do some photocopying on the odd occaision please let me know.
Geoff.
I’m poised and waiting for a name.
The MAP website can be found at http://www.mar.co.uk
Geoff.
Thanks for the info Dave.
I don’t suppose anyone knows which issue/year the article in A.M. appeared?
In the meantime, can anyone answer my original questions, or tell me where it was recovered from?
Geoff.
