Well said.

Kev35,
When will you next be visiting Cannock Chase? The reason I ask is that the Shoreham Aircraft Museum, where I’m a volunteer, would like photos of the gravestones for the German aircrew from the Luftwaffe aircraft that we have excavated?
If you let me have your e-mail address (by PM), I’ll send you a list of the aircrew concerned, if you’re willing to take the photos. There’s no rush by the way.

The words at the base of the headstone say it all.

Today and every day.
It might not be Battle of Britain, but my choice is Dornier Do217M-1 Werk Nr 56158/AIR MIN 107. This aircraft was scrapped in late 1955/early 1956, having in storage for eventual museum display since late 1946.
It that case, I might as well send you the three photos now. When you return them, send me a copy of the group photo with RFGM in, and you can do me an IOU for the other two.
I’ll stick them in the post next week, and send them to the address on your website.
Are you ‘bringing’ a 609 sqdn aircraft to the forum Battle of Britain At home’? (see the ‘At home’ thread).

Many thanks for the info Snapper. As soon as you can come up with two more relevant photos to RFG Miller (as well as the group shot above), I’ll send you my three photos (posted above) for you to copy.

I remember seeing the documentary on the making of the film in the hall at my junior school, pre July 1972. The next playtime, the entire playground was full of kids running around arms outstreched going ‘taka-taka-taka……..’
I sometimes wonder if this was what got me into aviation?
Geoff.
I hope that all of you reading this will be using the rest of this week to think of, and put together, some suitable Battle of Britain themed thread, to be posted on the forum for Monday 15th September.
Take a look at Kev35’s post, there are some good suggestions there for what you could post. There could be a local or personal connection with your post, or it may be something/someone related to the battle that you feel has been forgotten, and of course, don’t ignore those who saw the battle out on the ground, such as groundcrews, AFS/NFS, ARP, and the civilian population.
So get your thinking caps on.
Geoff.
Good idea Ant, anything that can raise the profile of the BoB is worth doing. Do you have a link to the prog that can be posted on this thread?
Any other ideas for bringing the significance of Monday home to Joe Public?
Geoff.
Just to confirm what’s been said above, went to Hendon yesterday, and their Meteor F.8 is displayed with the trolly acc plugged in to the socket/port mentioned by Warhawk.
Geoff.
Mark12,
Henry Boot, the author of the book is a good mate of mine, did a lot of research for him at the PRO in the squadron ORBs. I did e-mail him quite recently on the subject of the Woolwich Hurricane, & he had no idea of the serial. Obviously Ray has picked the serial up from somewhere, though I don’t know if Henry will agree with him, I shall have to see what he thinks.
Geoff.
To those of you reading this thread, if your thinking of visiting a Battle of Britain related venue next weekend, our museum is open on Sunday 14th September, as Ken Ellis says ‘….one of the most rewarding aviation museums you can find.’
Geoff.
The problem seems to have sorted itself out, mind you even this thread took a while to appear!
