Lovely photos there J.V. Will have to make an effort to get over to see her in the flesh…

Thanks Lowtimer. You never know what the future will hold though do you? – Stranger things may happen.
And welcome to the forum after “lurking”

A didn’t a Jumbo also miss Duxford??
Ray the aircraft behind the Rondone look like Percival types. Probably Proctors. Behind the Parasol I’d say is an Auster J1 and possibly a Miles Falcon?

Would it not be possible to new build a batch of engines? People remanufacture other components or is it all the crud with product liability?
I like the exposed JAP on the Dart Kitten. Alan has done a lovely job on that engine. It replaced another younger JAP that was on there last year. He works on yhe engines himself and then gets it all signed off. Really nice bloke.

Don’t feel too bad Ray… We, up here in Banburyshire, don’t get to see many flying about in our airspace.
Another trick is to add diesel into the exhaust which then burns white…

Many thanks for these pictures in this and the other threads. A real insight to an area we don’t get to see too much on here. It also enforces how much and how many fell in continental Europe fighting for what we now all too often take for granted. These pictures and those of the Stirling recovery show as well often what horrid and brutal way many met their end.

RAF Abingdon/Dalton Barracks has also been used for some sprint work (inc the Bently Owners Club) in the past.
Just as an indication of the decline of the aerial traffic to the BGP in 1988 I managed to log over 200 aircraft visiting – and that wasn’t all of them.
Not sure how many were operating around the area but at Turweston we logged only 36 plus 8 overflights/nearby flights…

Both programmes have used Bruntingthorpe too at some point.
Robbie Coultraines engineering series was partially filmed at Hurn and Duxford.
I’d love to see the pictures Steve. Turweston was hectic especially when the word got out we were open! The controlled maxed out at one point and held off accepting some aircraft whilst he cleared what he had on the field – Four waiting a spot, four on spots three departing and three in a hovering hold off the FATO strip. It was a memorable day for us especially me as heli-marshaller for those parking up for the day.
Shame how much the flying traffic has died off over the years…

Sorry… TW is our short hand for Turweston…
They had only 20 fixed wing this year… In fact such is the drop even some of the based stuff flew which is highly unusual for a G.P. weekend. The largest stuff in this year was a PC12 and two King Air’s. The Heron was due in but failed to materialise.
We did have Trislanders in to Turweston a few years back but not since. Last year we had three PC12’s and one year a Beech Starship.

No all Fixed wing go into TW… Only Rotary go in but there was some talk a year or so ago of even stopping that except for “special” people…
I remember in 1988/89 seeing Dash 7’s fly in for the G.P.

Edit for spelling
Steve…
The air movements at Silverstone for the G.P. over the last few years is not even a patch on what it was back in the eighties and early nineties…
The number of transfers and direct flights has dropped so much… We help at Turweston for the G.P. weekend and apart from the year when Silverstone was closed for most of the morning through fog (the year Bernie complained that HE couldn’t fly into the circuit – as if HE was the only one!!!) every year the numbers are getting less and less…
I remember waking to hear the constant flow of helicopters at 7 in the morning at my mum & dad’s…
