I admit I watched last nights episode.

Interesting to note the one lass’s response when asked by BB about what she meant by the phrase “She should just ******* off (back) home”.

Not really watched them all te way through myself but have caught bits when hopping. Seem “ok” very American but some nice footage.

Downfall
A German film about the last few days in Hitler’s bunker. Based on a couple of books written by those who were there it is a strong and powerful film. In many respects it is similar in feel and the way it was shot as “Das Boot”. It doesn’t glamorise those last days and at the same time doesn’t belittle them. It comes across as a balanced view.
Enjoyable and something different.

Layer Cake
In the same ilk as “Snatch” and “Lock Stock…” this film covers gangland hirarcy that form the “Layer Cake” and a batch of stolen drugs. Again another film where it all ties in somewhere along the line it was a good watch although I personally felt it didn’t quite match up to the other two but none-the-less was a good film.

Snatch
Guy Richie ties in one story with many angles and twists (a bit like Lock Stock) to produce another interesting film. The humour in it worked well and the “pikey” language was fun too.

I watched a few at Christmas time, watched one last week whilst stuck at home with no car and one last night.
I’ve been saving them up!!!

The Island Ewan McGreggor, Sean Bean & Scarlet Johannsen
An good story with an interesting idea of people being bred purely for spares for their “sponsors” with them not realising that their world is a mere illusion. All is well until Lincoln 6 Echo (McGreggor) starts to have nightmares and question his existance and the way of life in general. Thanks to the appearance of a moth he escapes briefly before returning with the truth. With this information and then runs with Johannsen in tow into the outside world. The chase scene is indeed a good one as it said on the box and I did duck involuntarily once or twice 😮
A film I did enjoy and would watch again.

Keeping Mum Patric Swayse, Rowan Atkinson & Maggie Smith
A woman is locked up in the 60’s for murder and this is set up against a vicars family in a modern day quiet village where such things as the church flower arranging committee is one of the most important things. The family are falling apart until Grace arrives as a house keeper. Then life starts to pick up for them…
A gentle sort of British comedy with some some good laughs in (well for me at least). Good performances by the cast as a family on the brink of completely falling apart. The very end had me laughing out loud.

Memoirs of a Geisha
An interesting film following a young girl from trainee through to a top geisha up to and immediately post war. Aparently the book is much better as more in depth emotionally and lifestyle wise. I found it watchable.

Lord of the Ring Trillogy
I watched all three extended versions virtually back to back between Christmas and New Year for the first time (I’d never fancied them previously) and found them good. I must admit I listened to the BBC Radio plaay version (With Sir Michael Horden as Gandalf) and found that had more suspense to it but basing what I saw on that the films against the play (Not read the books either), they were very good. The whole effect worked well.

Cockleshell Heros
A classic war film. I really enjoyed this. The story of a team of Royal Marines formed to attack German shipping in port in France utilising canoes and limpet mines. Typically British war film.
