specs of the Australian MESA please ……and more pictures too….

this wud have been a better option than the Phalcon for the IAF, as its also cheaper.

Two different classes. IAF wanted AWACS and not AEW in case of Phalcons, or else they could have gone for A-50’s. That was a cheaper option.

    Embraer for Indigenous AEWC

India has signed an agreement with Brazilian aircraft maker Embraer to buy three EMB 145 aircraft for its indigenous airborne early warning and control system (AEW&C) programme.

The Brazilian firm said in a statement here that the MoU was signed between Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Embraer for the three aircraft.

Indian government analysts and Embraer engineers are collecting necessary technical data on the aircraft for the study. At the request of the Indian government, an Embraer team recently visited DRDO and held in-depth discussions to support DRDO personnel in their tasks, it said.

“The analysis is expected to result in an initial contract for three EMB 145 AEW&C aircraft and technical support during the development effort,” Embraer said.

“Besides the upcoming contract to supply of EMB 145 ISR platform, we could be involved in some engineering work,” Embraer Executive Vice President for Defence market, Romualdo Barros said.

Centre for Airborne Systems (CABS), the Bangalore-based DRDO unit, has revived the airborne early warning (AEW) system programme that it had scrapped following a crash of a rotodome radar-fitted Avro aircraft near Arakkonam in Chennai in 1999.

CABS will acquire three Brazilian Embraer aircraft in which it will integrate phased array radars in the current Rs 1,800-crore programme, which the cabinet committee of security sanctioned last year.

Embraer last year signed a deal to sell five Legacy aircraft for VIP transport to the government, officials said.

AUTOLAY………generation and adaptation, pre and post processing tools etc

You have any idea which CFD they are using for Avatar project? I know Eulers code is being one of them.

    Castor,

Its no substitute to Wind Tunnel or Flight testing. You see its a faster aid to develop stuff ypu already know. If you have a new gen aircraft and it needs testing, you got to physically test it. Once you have the parameters, you build it into a software. So next time you have to builds its varient, you need not do the testing again. Again, you don’t get flight worthiness certificates without testing.

The basic rule here is that softwares are not intelligent. If you feed in the parameters , they can crunch numbers faster within the set parameters set.

    From this picture: http://www.protonriver.com/ae2005/batch3/Su-30MKI.JPG

What piece of equipment (red-colored) are those two servicemen (standing on either side of the plane underneath the wings) handling? Looks kinda like lawn mowers … but I ain’t see no grass around … 🙂

They are the tool kits. To heavy to be lugged around. Hence that stroller. 😉

Finite Elements Modeling is dated back into early eighties, the mathematical theory goes as far back as with Gauss, Euler, Descartes and Fourier, definitely nothing that could be even called US-made, even if the first widespread codes on the market were from Pittsburgh.

I remember one of the first really optimised objects was the tennis racquet, which has been given the twin-beam shape after the optimization performed by a German aerospace Schlenker scientist using self-made FEM-code. Interesting enough, he was using the Yin-Yang principle of transfering ‘hot’ and ‘cool’ vibrational energy.

French have bought a ADA software called “AUTOLAY.” A-380 was made on Autolay. However Autolay is a Autocad software, http://www.ada.gov.in/Products/autolay/autolay.html

😉 I know its a touchy subject in US. We do so much outsourced stuff. Anyway that was just a reply to Indians being gods in simulations. 😀

CFD Tool Kit and its Application

Aeronautical development Agency(ADA) has taken up the task of design and development of the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA), In order to carry out this task, ADA has provided continuous thrust to develop CFD tools for the aerodynamic design/analysis of LCA since 1986, through both in-house efforts and sponsored projects.

Significant progress has been made in the development of CFD codes for design and analysis and also in the area of grid generation and past-processing, As a design tool, ADA has developed a panel code for complete aircraft with ground effect at small angles of attack and side slip. For transonic flow regime, full potential field integral code of ADA, which uses cartesian field grid with surface panelling, can handle complete aircraft including external stores and control surface deflections. Full potential code based on cartesian grid is a very useful tool for design and analysis of complex aircraft configuration since its turn-around time is small. For higher angles of attack and side slip at all speeds, multi-block Euler code capable of handling complex configuration has been developed. Further, specialised codes such as RANS codes for internal/external flows have also been developed. For unsteady flow, codes have been developed for subsonic and transonic speeds for wing-body configuration (both rigid and flexible shapes) using transonic small perturbation (TSP) theory and vartex lattice method (VLM).

    Tool Kit at ADA

Panel code capable of handling complete aircraft configuration with ground effect at subsonic speeds.
Inverse design code for laminar super crittical airfoil.
Full potential field integral code using cartesian grid for complete aircraft with external stores at transonic speeds.
Multi-block finite volume Euler code for realistic aircraft configuration.
Finite volume RANS code for intake duct
Implicit turbulent RANS code for external flow over 3-D bodies.
    Grid generator with surface modeller.

Utilisation of CFD Codes at ADA
    Wing design
    Fuselage shape optimization
Evaluation of incremental changes in configuration
Pylon reshaping for reducing interference drag
Estimation of optimal deflection of leading edge devices.
    Prediction of Aerodynamic loads
    Calibration of Air data sensors
    Trajectory prediction of external stores
Evaluation of performance of intake duct

    other stuff

There are some pretty good solutions from hindustan aeronautics /national aeronautics. LCA was created on them. I have seen them work. AFIK some EU outfit has purchased them.

IAF and trusting? there alot of reports in Indian press from IAF which are not true in reality.

Hopefully new bus service will solve that issue. I am looking forward to it. I hope there are a lot of dhabbas and Petrol Stations in POK. If the BVR needs to continue its journey.

u seem …… disable or there is malfunction its quite useless.

It can process the data and send it to command post (a ship in this case). Rest decisions are made by the command post. Where as both Phalcon and E2C can act as command centers in addition to survelliance, target identification and processing.

Here is the optimum situation i can envisage. Ka-31, Ship and Sea harriers – one team for carrier defence. E2C and MiG-29K for blue water ops.

Another point is IN will be looking for E2C data linling with Ka-31. Say Ka-31’s approx range is 300 kms. E2C goes further. In case E2C spots a threat beyond the Ka-31’s scan range, it can be alerted.

    Ciciboy,

Modifications might include strengthening of airframe and more powerfull engine.

    Let me explain.

INS Vikramaditya will carry KA-31 as well as E2C. E2C is for larger distance to be operated in tandem with MiG-29K’s. There is no point to send E2C data to be sent to Ship, as the its for far away ops. KA-31 will provide AEW for carrier protection and makes sence to datalink with INS V.

IAF too acquired Phalcons rather than A-50 because of the same reason.

does the USN Hawkeyes have onboard air controllers ? one modification to reduce weight
could be offload all the controllers and their equipment into the ship and transmit the
    radar imagery via satellite.

Why use E2C then? Ka-31 will do, right?

So the visit by NG that should be occuring this according to the previuosly posted Hindu Times article will just be for the formal presentation of these findings? You’ve used other words elsewhere so I assume when you say “fit” you mean more than it just fits on the deck and hangar right? I mean they didn’t actually just say it fits did they?

    Daniel

What they ment was it could land and take off.

    Jai,

We have the pics for that too. He targeted the Kamov-31 for me. If you noticed there were some flags just ahead where the guy was sitting(2nd day the wind knocked them down). It tracked the kamov even when the flags obstructed the view. He was like “oh my god, i din’t expect this”… hehehe. I was amazed by the simplicity. Just click the taget on the screen and bingo its locked. then fire the missiles. 😀
