Hi, I’ve been thinking the same but was not 100% sure so didn’t comment. I’m also not too sure whether the tail stripe is correct. Based on the photos it looks black. If my failing memory is correct Bitburg didn’t use a black stripe. Red, blue and yellow come to mind. If the stripe is blue rather than black then it’s too dark.
    Please tell me I’m wrong.
p.s. This is my first post so sorry it’s so negative.

The fin stripe should a lighter blue yes.
The tail codes are definitely too small, easy to google it.

Yes I’m a pedant but the BT fin code is presented too small.

From where I’m standing, Beermat was simply poking fun at the laughable standard of journalism amongst all the tabloids.
It could apply to any news story.

Writing for the Mail is easy:

The rickety old jalopy-plane, last serviced in 1959, has a fire in its combustion engine that keeps going out, causing the ancient Spitfire-type fighter to lose all control and plummet, say experts.
“I knew something was wrong when it didn’t go up like a rocket and make a wooshy noise, like what they do on telly” said Albert Sprigs, 93, an aviation expert because his sister once flew to Malaga on a plane.
The pilot was attempting a “Loop-the-loop”, an extremely dangerous and reckless stunt that is only supposed to be done during wartime, and then over foam mattresses.
“I would never have done anything like that” said Neville Higginbottom (13), an aviation expert from Penge. “Mainly because I have never flown an aeroplane”.

I have to stop you there,Neville is very accomplished on FSX and has logged thousands of hours on PS3 and saw the PS4 into operational service……….besides ,he lives in South Norwood now.

Apart from that,a job awaits you at the Daily Mail, start this afternoon?

I read the piece in the Telegraph . Its unfortunate that ‘hooliganism’ is cited – by far fire and crowd control has caused the greatest loss in life in football spectators in the U.K
That people die enjoying watching any form of sport or public event is massively unfortunate.

In terms of operation – stringent maintainance and properly certified pilots cannot fully explain some losses. The Hunter fleet in the U.K has lost four that I can think of -its disproportionate to the hours being flown by the type in the U.K.

Regards the CAA oversight of displays – a DA is effectively a licence – humans by their very nature make errors and do unexplained things . The CAA might have to look at
what technology can help a pilot if vintage jet aerobatics at displays are desired by operators and spectators.

Some very valid points made there.
The AAIB are a remarkable organisation formulating reports from sometimes very little to work with.
Hopefully the cockpit has held up reasonably,I know investigators can determine final readings from cockpit instruments in difficult circumstances. Comparisons of the last altimeter setting with the QFE of the time will be interesting.

Whilst I have supported The Sun in the last 5 years or so for their political views,I’m sorry to say they haven’t advanced beyond the ‘blood and guts’ distasteful reporting from the dark days of the IRA atrocities or the Clapham Junction rail disaster.
For some reason, there is a section of the great British public who love this kind of detail.
When I first saw the original footage and the fireball go up I knew this was a disaster for all involved with far reaching consequences ranging from the life changing for those caught up in it to the comparatively trivial for us airshow fans who will have more sedate shows in future.
I don’t need The Sun and their gory reporting and indignant editorials to make me see the seriousness of the situation.

If Eric Brown makes an observation, I would pay very close attention.

Of course, but an average joe making the same assertion ,based only on having attended airshows for decades with little/no flying experience ,would be told off by someone shouting down from the moral high ground:rolleyes:

Many people across Internet forums have been vilified or ridiculed as armchair AAIB inspectors, low houred PPL’s told to get back to the bottom of the aviators ladder for daring to suggest the pilot may just have been at fault.
What happens when this gentleman makes the same claim…….scroll down to the news bulletin for 00.09

Labour MP from Manchester has called for all displays to take place over the sea; he obviously hasn’t seen the floatilla of boats moored along the display line at such events, nor has he grasped that placing the A/C so far away from the public to assure their safety, will almost certainly mean that the display wont be seen by anyone.

He is a Labour MP after all so his opinion is worth eff all.
There is a reason none of those clowns are in power .

Some people are now suggesting sedate fly pasts for these aircraft.
For the past 8 years the Vulcan has come in for criticism for its more restrained post RAF displays and there are a tiresome cadre amongst the mods on the ‘other forum’ who continually berate the BBMF for their displays.
Will many of the air show crowds accept a more sedate routine from participants in future?

RE The Red Arrows, I had completely forgotten about the lack of suitability of Shoreham as a site for a Reds routine.
I know Red 10 will carry out site surveys pre season particularly if it is a new location such as Headcorn this year.

Just returned from a day at Duxford to be told by my partner that there had been an accident at Shoreham (although she thought it was probably a Harvard).
A terrible accident which, for me, is made even worse by the fact that people died who probably had no interest in aviation and were just getting on with their daily business. I agree that this is not the time to speculate on causes or possible repercussions. We should be thinking of the families of those on the ground who were lost in this awful accident as well as the family and workmates of the pilot and my thoughts are with all of them at this sad time.

A very good point about the victims on the ground, I did think the same thing.

    Nice tribute.
Bodney Tower was still ok in 2010 when I visited.
A really nice atmosphere there I also explored the old 487th FS area including the spot where Preddy and Meyer parked their planes.

I know I am a glutton for punishment but I have just been checking out some of the comments on the DM website .
It truly worries me that I share the same planet with those morons.

A professional piece of airmanship from Dan Griffith, mightily relieved he is in one piece.
I am sad for MK912,she was the first and only Spitfire to date I have sat in.
