In other news, the BBMF FB page ( a reliable source) say LF should be ready to resume its duties next week after repair to a cracked oil pipe.
I don’t have a problem with advanced ticket sales providing the venue states this at the start.
Old Warden was unfortunate in that they stated no admittance without a ticket after the venue had sold out.
I’m just glad that I purchased RIAT tickets this year!
But come come RIAT an admin fee for purchasing tickets that you print out at home?
Good point, at least the IWM send paper tickets.
Misleading info on website, it mentions an ‘adult two days’ ticket I took that to mean sat and sun?
In reference to Facebook comments / spotters groups etc……(.and apologies for thread drift) but some of the dumbest comments are to be found on aviation related Facebook pages.
For example I recall a dumbo last year on the Biggin Hill Festival of Flight FB page bemoaning the fact that there was no USAF participation including F111’s,F16’s ,F15’s etc etc. I used commendable restraint by politely suggesting that the poster had been on the moon since about 1992.
It’s a shame that many forums are being shunned in favour of Facebook groups.
Glad the Key Forums are going strong !
Back to the Saturday display, I’m happy to be corrected but I believe the Saturday demos at RIAT are the ones flown for the trophy judges.
It’s quite likely everything was put into the Saturday display to secure a fitting farewell trophy for 558?
Don’t think you’ve lost your marbles completely yet, I believe it was definitely pushed back a week or so as not to clash…. with Goodwood if I recall?
Thanks for the reassurance,I normally check and double check theses things.
That said,I have to submit my holiday requests early Jan first come first served.
It’s likely the date change slipped by me after putting my dates in.
Don’t think I’ll be going………not because of the advance ticket requirement but it appears I have booked the wrong week off :stupid:
I’m sure the date was changed from its original one.
I have had a lot on my mind though……….
Another vote of thanks to Tangmere for his sensible and restrained post,as someone said not one of the Historic Forums finest threads and one which left a nasty taste in the mouth .
I hope the Sea Fury repair is progressing well .
As ever the photos are top notch.
N3200 was listed as one of two Mark i’s listed in the BoB 75 tribute at RIAT? Whilst there I thought maybe JR was going to meet them in the Blenheim after take off .
So, is this the tool most forumites have on their list of things to bring to Legends next year?

Sorry, thought they were sprue cutters…….thought Airfix were planning a ‘make and take’
Did seem a waste having the HAC Hurricane static but there are obviously still people unaware that the Poles fought in the BoB
Lt George Green of the 4th FG landed and rescued his CO Maj Pierce McKennon. They left off their chutes and Green sat on his CO’s lap and flew them back to Debden sharing oxygen.
This was a P51D though, imagine shoe horning two into a Hurricane!
Although sadly it is unlikely to happen, I think that doubling the price and halving the number of tickets would be a great idea. Rather like Goodwood, where the price for a three-day ticket is around £145 I believe. ‘The right crowd, and no crowding’
Not sure what you mean by ‘right crowd’ ? Does a large disposable income guarantee well behaved responsible people?
The area I grew up in has now been populated by what you may call ‘new rich’
They are builders and other tradesmen etc living in the nicest and well appointed properties and are amongst the noisiest and most anti social people you could be around……..think The Only Way is Essex and you won’t be far of the mark.
I certainly wouldn’t want to encounter them on a day out!
I am hoping the earlier comment about Duxford September advance ticket only being a one off proves accurate .
RIAT is totally ruined by the policy and it certainly does nothing to aid traffic or crowd management.
I think the problem is partly down to the fact that many of us airshow goers of a certain vintage were brought up with the likes of Roger Hoefling ( my personal fave at IAT’s and Air Fetes) but also John Blake and Stratton Richey.
In other words we were spoilt and enjoyed commentators who were original and had personality.
I don’t much care for Ben Dunnell, he is extremely knowledgeable and I enjoy his written articles but as a commentator he is safe, which if I was an organiser would be an admirable quality.
Out of the current crop I like Brendan O’Brien, yes he is sometimes corny and can trot out the same anecdotes but he is top of my list. He has a good partnership with Melvin Hiscock at Dunsfold Wings and Wheels.
Colin Wilsher and Tim Callaway were a good pairing too at Duxford.
As for Sean Maffett his best work was at RIAT.
I totally agree.
It is a gamble and I find the need to buy RIAT tickets in advance a pain not only for the weather reasons given but also for other unforeseen circumstances.
I bought my RIAT tickets back in January for an ‘early bird’ price and now due to a family issue find myself in a situation where we may not be able to attend.
I have been attending air shows for years and often leave go/no go decisions right until the last minute .
For Flying Legends i was available both days and I had the option to take advantage of the better Saturday forecast and as such had a fantastic day.
I am hoping that this September show advance ticket policy is just a precaution against the expected ‘Spitfire factor’ with this being the BoB 75th year.
Back to RIAT ,I don’t particularly like their all e-ticket policy either.
