Just thought I’d say what a great display from the Sea Vixen at the B/mth Air Festival on Sunday.
A fantastic display of noise, power and aerobatics that made full use of the clear blue skies over the seafront.
Well done to the pilot Simon Hargreaves and all at DS Aviation.
Great display at Shoreham too, there had been a bit of a gap yesterday waiting for the Sea Vixen to transit along from Bournemouth, when it did arrive it caught many of the long lens brigade off guard prompting mutterings about the commentary……tee hee.
Lovely to see it again.
RIP Flt Lt Egging!
I wonder if this aircraft is the same one that suffered a birdstrike and made it to Blackpool a couple of weeks back? This was mentioned on another thread here about the use of a black Hawk as the lead aircraft?
Blue Skies….
I’m sure that jet is still at Blackpool, not certain to fly again.
Quite unbelievable news today, absolutley awful.
R.I.P. Red 4
Perhaps also its because no one can get on that forum.
One other forum has been down for a couple of hours presumably due to people logging on for info.
Apparently ITN have reported that this is a fatality, looking for a source now
edit: still looking, cannot find any confirmation of this apart from a post on PPRune
BBC now saying the airport is open again – would this be the case if this was a fatality?
It doesnt involve the airfield now, so I suppose business goes on as usual.
I don’t want to sound insensitive but why is this in the Historic?? there is already a thread in the modern military.
Not looking good for the poor guy…or gal 🙁

To be fair, not everyone visits ‘modern mil’.
I am keenly interested in the modern military but only visit the ‘historic’ forums at Key.
At the bottom of the link in post #1.
So it does:o
Reports say pilot ok but waiting for confirmation. Yes fingers crossed!
Where did you see that? The police statement on Sky News gave no info on the pilot.
Really hope they are ok.
All I can see in that photo is the incident aircraft and another Red banking away, and a speck which could be a dust spot.
I don’t think the BBMF do it unless they are ex RAF pilots in the others. And judging by what happened at Legends you cannot blame them.
Thats a good point.
Both Paul Day and Al Pinner have gone back and flown with the BBMF on the odd occasion, so it seems quite understandable that they stick with who they know and trust.
When I saw the thread title I thought it was another milestone……..’First female Red Arrows pilot last year and now……..’ well, you get the picture.
On a serious note, it looked like they had a black Hawk with them on their flightline at RIAT.
I got hold of a nice copy of ‘Angels,Bulldogs and Dragons’ by Bill Marshall, well worth a look if you are a 355th fan.
It does as far as I’m concerned Rob!
Keep the A2 and 8th AF photos coming, great thread.
“The tip of his wing caught my undercarriage” he probably said empenage, but the journo either misheard, didn’t understand the nasty foreign sounding word or else just made the whole lot up…..
That had me wondering too.
Strong Parachutes of Florida have a great product there, worth every penny of the £1864.
What a superb photo story……….maybe there is hope for a phoenix style resurrection for BBD afterall.
The DX bump is so bad, the forum thread hit it and drifted completely off course:rolleyes:
