This is a great idea I’ll tell you what I’ll pick up a few for are little get together here in Nashua NH and I’ll drop them off to some of you guys who I have address already all I ask is that when they are done drop in the pre-address envolpe and send it back to me and I’ll get them done at my dark room and then post.

maybe we can get four or fiv or who knows how many going around the world. I’ll put this type of thing up on the Wix board also since alot of us go back and forth between the two.

Yes indead I have some information for you the plane is one of the many airframes that Mr. Salis recover from Egypt in the mi-80s. The Airframe is a LEt C.11 constuction # 1711529.

A friend of mine Dan McCue bought it and had it rebuild in 1887 with a R-2000 installed after operating it for number of years he sold to a person out west who race it a few times at RENO if you remember the Yak that Pardues Bearcat chew the rudder on this is the plane.

We had heard it was sold on Sat. and was on its way to Europe. Its a sweet little plane and very hot.

The 375WEG at Tyndall is also a QF-4 operator, operating the drones on behalf of the USAF. However, there are no operational Phantoms anywhere in US military service (the 20FS only flies in US marked aircraft for tax reasons) and the Spooks that do fly are all drones. One thing about the F-4Fs: although they got quite a number of upgrades during the F-4-KWS program, a glass cockpit wasn’t part of that.

I wish not to disgree with you on the F-4Fs but my Coz. is a Mec. with the Silver Lobos and he told me that the 4s are in the process of getting Glass Cockpit put into them. As for Tax Reason they are still carried on the USAF inventory so they are USAF on lease back to the GAF.

I saw a MCAS Cherry Point QF-4 at NAS Brunswick two Weeks ago they still have USN Bu# so they are still on the Navys inventory if they are being operated like the drones on the West Coast they have Civilian N #s.

I read that when the Germans retire there F-4s they would hev operated them close to 50 Years this must set some sort of recourd for Type operated by one Nation.

Hmmm, you mean like 6 F/A-18Es vs a dozen Iranian F-14s? Would be very interesting… and my assumed anti American reputation on this forum has nothing to do with my sadness that those yukky F/A-18s might actually splash a few Tomcats which I actually respect, but if the Iranians really want to threaten a carrier group then with short ranged F/A-18Es performing the missions sending F-14s up to engage both the strikers and their tankers makes the strike package from a US carrier more vulnerable than it has ever been… imagine if the Iranians bought a few Tu-22M3s and fitted them with Yakhonts or even Moskits… ahh well.

Well first gary I’ve never said your Bias toward us Yanks, with that said there would be No way what any strike force would get close to do any lanch remember as soon as US Carrier Battle groups enter Hot Zones they have a Hawkeye on 24/7 plus in the Gulf area there are at any given time three Looking Glass Aircraft in the Air be it USAF or NATO or one of are Allies.

Plus if any thing did lanch from Iran we would pick it up on are Radars station near and around Iran.

Plus the F-18E/F have alonger range then do any of the F-14 the Iranians have and are new look down shot downs would engage them before they even new what hit them.

Also one thing you all are forgetting if the Iranians did put up at Strike package as soon as it got into the Gulf there would be a Strike on its way to Terhan and they would be intercept by ground base Naval and Air Force before they could even get any sort of missle lock.

F-4s

Thanks for that Crazymainer, I had no idea. Ah, F4’s, wonderful big noisy things. I used to have my eardrums split on a daily basis by the USAF throwing them up out of Alconbury in the late eighties. What with those, the TR1’s and the F5’s, and the RAF’s Canberra’s out of nearby Wyton, my neck of the woods used to be quite a busy place… (sigh…)

Here is what I found on the US F-4 fleet.

VX-30 Bloodhounds still/was using QF-4N/S for some interesting work over the Pacific Missle Range they were to be retired June of this year but my sorce say that at least five are still being flown.

Naval Air Depots (NADEP) MCAS Cheery Point SC also have roughtly 8-10 QF-4N/S for East Coast Missle Work.

The 20th Fighter Squadron Silver Lobos are the training Squadron for the German Pilots and Wizo they are flying F-4Fs with the glass cockpit mods.

Plus out at NAS Fallon they are still using QF-4E as Lawn Darts. :p
