Okay so the elevons go up as the flaps go down ?

That is how I figure it has to be…thanks.

There are No flaps fitted to the Vulcan, that control surface does not exist on that aircraft type. Seems your simulator is a bit misleading.

I have flown the Vulcan in FSX. One thing I con’t understand; it has flaps, but shoudn’t the nose dive when you use them ?

Really cool sounding aircraft in the simulator too.

    Flaps? No. Elevons, yes.

Why were the emergency crews tasked prior to landing? Was there a known fault?
Gusting 20kts crosswind is high for a Hurricane, I thought he did well.

I don’t see this as sad at all SA99. I think you can’t save everything, and this aeroplane is better left to go its own way.
We get too romantic by giving the corroding lump a gender and a fanciful name. Let it slip away, and appreciate the other P-38’s we have on our planet…

Possibly yes. But parked in farmers fields you’d be reducing options for a stricken aircraft. Also, there’d be traffic wanting to go to and fro from the said fields, adding time and therefore risk to timely access to crash gates. This debate could go on and on, but the facts are simple, life isn’t cheap, whereas looking at an aeroplane take off is!

Sabrejet, I believe the real issue lies with access to the crash gates. Heaven forbid fire engines need access to save human lives, but imagine if YOU were responsible for someone burning to death?

Another data plate to add to the list of flyers then?

My cynical side thought that too, but apparently its to be displayed in a museum.

Diamond Lil visited the UK in 1992. I was lucky enough to have a look inside after hours. It was my first trip (to Boscombe Down) and I was very very drunk (a bit later) that evening.

I’m very envious of you guys, we have a family outing every year to that event, but since it’s sold out, we can’t attend. In absolutely saddened as it was the only aviation event that I could get my 14 year old step daughter to, and one I said that my 2 year old daughter has attended twice (first time at 7 weeks old!) would never miss. I’m really hacked off that I didn’t realise about the Vulcan attending much earlier, else I’d have booked tickets. Very remiss of me, and rather naïve. Still you live and learn!

Please take lots of images guys, and have a great time.

Well it gets on top of my wardrobe so it’s not inconceivable it ends up on the U-2.

Do the engineers get posted to the flight as part as there normal RAF career or do they request a posting to the flight?

It’s normal to volunteer and you can be held on a list, but it’s not unknown to get the posting in your workflow.

I joined the RAF to work at BBMF, and after 13 years on the list, I was second in line. Then they scrapped the lists with the introduction of JPA. I got a secondment there in 2005/6, and 3 attempts by BBMF to keep me on a permanent basis, sadly all failed. It’s a real lottery at times. I enjoyed working there immensely.

What a relief! It was being discussed in London around 8-10 months ago, and was decided back then.
It really was a poor airshow, with big gaps between acts and clearly planned with a budget in mind. Good day out for the local families though. I won’t miss the Monday morning FOD plod, or the sheer amount of disruption it caused on the station to all personnel as things just stopped working “because of the airshow”. From the inside it was a real blight on normal ops, and a heavy security risk.

If it moves to Scampton, perhaps they can saw pound coin size holes in the accommodation blocks and set up a repair fund for the station, it really is a land that time (and money) forgot.

It’s not just about the aviators 467, the engineers are full time.

I wasn’t surprised to see that yet again, Sheffield (the 4th largest city) is avoided. They seem to have a hatred for Sheffield which seems odd given the population and the fact that bits of the Vulcan were manufactured there. More worrying though is that there is still no specific reference to the last flight. I’m starting to think that maybe they really are seriously thinking of making the last flight in secret. I can’t imagine how much anger this would cause but then I suppose once it’s done it’s done. Maybe they just don’t care.

What an amazing amount of unsubstantiated claptrap! Who gives a $hit about Sheffield and whether the Vulcan visits there?? What on the Vulcan was made there? 4th largest city in what poll? The Vulcan hates Sheffield, or the operating company? What do the population contribute specifically to the Vulcan’t?!

Yes John, it’s a simplistic term used when SWG (standard wire gauge) doesn’t seem apt for sheet materials.
