I don’t think you’ll get an answer to that until the actual day I’m afraid. 🙂
Blizzards here right now, on top of last night’s snow too. This isn’t a little bit; this is definitely flight cancellation material.
Expect the situation to deteriorate over the next 48 hours.
Possible improvement then for the weekend.:)
Hi,
I flew on a UA744 from SFO in 2000. No PTV’s but generally a good flight.
The papers are exagerrating EAL. Best thing to do is watch the BBC TV forecasts; they’re the best. Wouldn’t be surprised if we hit -10 or worse though by night, and with a strong wind it will feel colder than it actually is.
Travel chaos.
A quick update for you all.
As expected the media are now picking up on this so regular updates should be available for airports and flights etc..
This is still looking like a very serious event next week with plenty of snow and sub-zero temperatures. Eastern and Scottish airports are at the highest risk but all areas are likely to catch some snow at somepoint. Whilst many of us (me included) are looking forward to next week; the situation is so severe we shouldn’t forget it will also be a very dangerous week.
Take Care all and keep posted for updates if you’re travelling. 🙂
Andrew; next week is looking special…don’t worry. All of the U.K. is at major risk, its just the highest risk is in the areas I’ve mentioned.
At the moment, I’d suggest flights into Southern, Eastern and Scottish airports are at greatest risk. Western areas may escape the worst, but are still likely to see some of the white stuff during next week.
That’s scarily big..:)
The 400, 800 and 900s have two overwing emergency exits.
The 200,300,500,600,700 have one.
The 500 and 600 have fewer windows ahead of the overwing exit which distinguishes it from the 300 and 700.
The engines look slightly different on the NGs.
The NGs (I think) also have larger tails…correct me if I’m wrong on this.
Could it be that Air Scandic lease an MD-11 from Finnair instead?
Now that would be good. 🙂
Preston – you may well be right long term, and I wouldn’t question your judgement. But until we know what is going to happen to BMi Baby long term (and none of us do), we can only go on the facts and those facts are that a low cost operator is providing regular flights from Teesside – this is a good thing.:)
If in a year’s time, they close, that will be a bad thing, but for now, I for one am very pleased, as many other locals who now don’t have to travel up or down the A1.
Easyjet; Teesside and Tyneside are worlds away in terms of location and culture. A drive from Middlesbrough to Newcastle is near on 50 miles with many other cities in between such as Sunderland and Durham. Teesside airport should definitely NOT be called Newcastle South; as it happens it is being renamed Durham & Tees Valley Airport, so fortunately I don’t have to worry.
Preston; you say is BMI Baby expanding at Teesside a good thing or not? How can it not be a good thing? If Baby do go down, or pull out, then it will be bad thing when it happens. But the fact that they are here and giving the local people and business’ a boost is a good thing. Hopefully the situation will last.
On a hypothetical note; my biggest fear for MME would be if MYT went down. With only MYT willing to put a based aircraft here through the summer, no MYT flights would have a massive impact for us.
don’t think Teeside will ever become like newcastle or any other airport, I don’t know why but Teeside isn’t the best name to be noticed and also there not on the map!
You’re probably right; we’ll always be in the shadow of LBA and NCL. However, I’ve always said MME has great potential because it can capture people from NCL and LBA because it is smack bang in the middle.
As for us not being on the map, we were the last time I checked. The airport has been established in Darlington for many years.
Probably not that much then. I’m no expert, but I would guess they wouldn’t be worth much more than you paid for them at the moment.
Try asking again in 20 years…;)
