Chipmunk Drawing C1-G-71
Hi there,
Hope this works!! I have uploaded to Scribd a copy of HS Drawing C1-G-71 titled ‘External Paint Finish and Identification Markings’ for RAF & AAC Chipmunk T Mk10 Aircraft and hopefully it’s embedded here as well.
If you cannot make out any specific details then and you want a full size copy then drop me a line and I can send you one.
Hope that helps
Regards
Dave
Judging from the p/n it would be either F28 or F100/F70.
I can have a check next week for you to narrow it down a bit for you.
Hope that helps.

Dave
I’ve got LOTS of SP41E Tabwashers and at a price far cheaper than the mainstream dealers, but only have 5/16″ in SP45 (lh tab).
Have supplied them to people re-building R-R and Bentley diffs in the past who were very happy with finding them in qty and at a good price.

Hi there,
As far as I know Dowty Rotol,now Messier-Bugatti-Dowty( http://www.safranmbd.com/) took over Electro Hydraulics.
When working on the Herald landing gears (E-H manufactured)many years ago support was provided by Dowty as well as Dart Herald Support.
Messier-Bugatti-Dowty in Cheltenham would be the first place to try and get some information.
Hope that helps

Flaring tools
Hopefully attached will be some pics of a complete flaring tool AGS772. There are a full set of collets, as well as the tommy bars.
This tool has just gone out to the US, so is not available. Although I do have a couple of other AGS772 in various states.
Also attached is a scan from AP1464 which is the Engineering (Aircraft) General and Technical Information and covers all sorts of wonderful subjects.
AP1464D Vol1 Pt2 Sec3 Pipelines
Hope the information is of use.

Dave
It did take a bit of digging for to find it as I knew it was somewhere. I tried AP1086 Sec 28 first but think the copies I have of that are just a little to ‘modern’ to list them (they are dated mid-60’s through 70’s.
I’ll have a further dig around to see if I can find any further information and try and scan the S.D.M. referenced.
Glad it’s going to be of use.

Simmonds Nut equivalents
Not exactly ‘to hand’ but here goes:
Please find a link to a document scanned from the Hunting-Percival Design Office Handbook (last amended in 1965) detailing replacement items for obsolete standards then in force.
Hunting Percival Obsolete Standards
The last 3 pages deal with stiffnuts as well as anchor nuts.
The manufacturer’s designations in the table of the Hunting-Percival Design Standard being translated to manufacturers as follows (courtesy of the Ministry of Supply Air Standard Design Memorandum SDM(A) 36-6) dated 15 Jan 1958
Nyloc= Simmonds Accessories Ltd
Philidas= Whitehouse Industries Ltd
Oddie= Brown Bros. (Aircraft) Ltd
Aerotight= Guest Keen and Nettlefold Ltd
Hope that helps.
Sorry about the scan being upside down……give me spanners anyday!!

Graham,
Best place for you to try would be Watts Aviation:

5C/1009 is listed as 5CX/1009 as Type C Indicator, Port, Starboard and Nose wheels, without filament lamp. Superseded by Ref No 4204

It probably depends on what equipment you are looking for as the landing gear is Messier-Bugatti-Dowty now,and the prop/hydraulic side of things is GE Aviation. Various other parts of the organisation was sold off as well ie. Ultra Electrics and Dowty Seals.
Probably worth a try with both M-B-D and GE Aviation though.

What size are you after,as I think I have some (they’re 1/4″ BSP from memory but not sure)
All the current AGS drawings are controlled by ADS and a link to them ishere:
I also have some Standard Design Memorandums which may contain further information.
Hope that helps

AGS772 & AGS773 Flaring tools
As it’s a bit to cool to go out to the garage to get an AGS772 to take some pictures so I’ve posted a couple of extracts from AP1464 and a Brown Brothers book.
From memory the flare angle is 32 degrees, so the 37 degree AN type (that LAS stock) and 45 degree auto type tools are not much use.
Flaring stainless with the AGS type tools is fun too, lots of tube preparation is needed or the cone expander will end up being scored. Tungum also needs care or the flare will crack (not like Kunifer on car brake pipes!).
I have come across a few AGS772 (the smaller one) and 2 AGS773 (the larger one) on my travels over the years, but they are always in short supply and in demand too.
Hope that helps.
Regards
Dave
