Grandad was a gunner in the Royal Navy on merchant ships carrying iron ore from Canada to the uk, Did nothing exciting except steel a crate of rum and drank it over a few weeks with the crew while on watch duties.:D

Suspected topedo attack a loud band many jumped over board at Nova Scotia but my grandad couldn’t swim he stayed and got a medal for bravery for staying it was a blown engine componant.

Grandma was in the Land Army near cornwall & loved every bit of it especially dancing with American GI’s.

Mums uncle was in Burma saw no Spitfires but did see many Japanese soldiers the tales he told of them coming over the ridge while he worked the machine gun to stop them were shocking.:(

It’s just a film and id rather watch many more of the same regular than wait 10 years for a film with real aeroplanes.

CGI is cheaper and can only get better with time.

Have you seen those you tube videos of those metal detector enthuisasts digging in Belgium in the forests and there bringing up clean as “new” bullets & then there is the twisted and corroded weapons, plenty of helmets etc.

Those weapons may still have one up the pipe ready best not clean it up too hard.!

I suspect they find weapons in a clean state but can’t show them on the videos.!!

I served my apprentiship on B.R. at the depot at New England. For 6 yrs, I hated the damned things, getting covered in grease, oil, and dirt every day, I was pleased when I had completed my term of punishment, and went into engineering.
Having said that, In Sept, I had my holiday at Weymouth, and visited Swanage, where they have a 6? mile single track line, I reluctantly agreed with my wife, and we went on a return trip.

Suddenly, all the horrible thoughts of my 6 yrs of hell, disappeared, as the engine went over the joins in the line, giving that familiar “Clikerty, clack”, I smelled the smoke, heard the engine chuffing away, and I thought to myself, how nice it was that some of these old girls are not only preserved, but also kept in fine fettle, and able to run.
Restoration, and dedication at it’s best.
The best one I worked on was Mallard, the worst, the 9Fs.
    Jim.
    Lincoln .7

Thats what i do for a living now i wonder in 30 yrs will i want to preserve a 142/158 etc they probably will still be running.!!:D
