Have you thought about video capable DSLR such as the Canon 5D MkII (~£1800), or the 7D (~£1200) and then your choice of lense(s)? The 5D is actually being used to film proper TV and film, and is some bit of kit.
I thought I read that the GE Engines vent small quantities of fuel overboard when the engine is shutting down? Did they not say that it saved more fuel during the shutdown doing it this way?

You know, there is a bit of me that wants to go through a HGV course. It is a bit pricey to do on a whim for the laugh, and not actually needing to do it. Mind you, at the price it cost me to add Cat B+E I could have done it for not a great deal extra.

I fail to see what you are getting at, that autopilot/autothrottles are bad? Should pilots be flying manually all the time? A computer is only as good as the information it receives, and given the situation neither the computer or the pilot really stood a chance.
