Any pics of this a/c around ?
Seems a honest descripcion, anybody know what film it was in ?
This Auction is for a full size model of a spitfire thats seen betted days While buying a chieftain tank in wales for my business http://www.tanksalot.co.uk i ended up buying the spitfire as well ,It looked a bargain the kit costs about 12k and a finished plane costs about 30k its in fiber glass panels with a steel skeleton and has two electric start motorbike engiines. One powers the prop and the other the wheels through a large hydrolic pump and hydrolic motors in the wheels so when restored you could taxi around shouting chocks away it was used in a film in a scene were several spits were shotup while attempting to tate off.The problem is im jusi coming in to the tank driving season and have over 100 vehicles to keep sorted so
option 1 is to try and find an enthusiastic group of chaps who want to take on a project were i pay for parts and materials and they throw in their time and labour for the fun of it .
Option 2 i cut it in to big chunks and drop it in to the woods were we do SAS woodland patrol and make a very realistic crash site (sacralidge ).
option 3 some one bids above the reserve and we care fully crane it on to a lorry for them.
NOW READ CAREFULLY the main steel frame is strong but rusty some of the thinner internal tin work is rotten and will need replacing ,we had to cut the wings offand they will need strengthening in places and some tubing and spars replacing the drivers canopy is cracked but a new one comes with the plane still in the bubble wrap. The rudder is fine just removed for transport.Dont know the history of the honda 125 and yamaha engines probably standing siezes but you will never need high milage out of them and its amazing what a bit of coka coala does down the bores of a tight engine. The panels around the engine ,12 exhausts and under belly panels are all their just a couple of two foot fibreglass flat wing panels missing and the prop spinner have gone we do have the blades. So bid awayremember their 30kfinished and hire out at £2500 a day but it need s work and a plane anorak not a tank anoraksteering the ship more info Nick on 07860 455636
Here are some pics I took last year. Remains are of a Mosquito, but can anyone confirm if the wheels are too? They look similar to Hornet wheels to me (unless both aircraft hadthe same type?)
Thanks.
Are these the well known remains in a Malta scrapyard? I’m surprised somebody has not recovered the remains if only for the metal parts, are they for sale ?, is the price too high $$$$ ?
I think it’s WV495 as I have a note of it wearing this code plus it was exported to the US many years ago. I need to check my pictures from many years ago to confirm this.
Alan
Thanks Alan
I will pass your info on
I found a colour photo with a copyright on it of 2005. This pic shows sea hawk hulks at Lasham.
Is there anything left at Lasham or is the copyright date erroneous ?
Roy.
The date is not erroneous as it most likely describes when the photo was first “published” as this can affect the duration of copyright in certain countries as it may determine the start point of the protection period. The copyright endorsement does not relate to when it was taken that is a quite separate matter.
Consul
Might Roy not be referring to one of your lovely pics on the scrapyard thread ? it which case it would be “as it describes” & not “most likely describes” 🙂
Exactly where at Lasham was the scrap yard?
Coming from Basingstoke on the Alton road turn left to the gliding centre & then when the gliding entrance is on your right the Staravia yard/hanger was in the field on the left before the first road on the left. No sign of it now, they even dug up the hard standing.
….’On the 3 March (1943 I think) Wellington HF906 practicing circuits at HN was overtaken by powers setting problems, then smashed into cottages at Common Barn, nr Hermitage. Its crew, two civllians & livestock were killed.’
Now I don’t know exactly where Common Barn is in relation to Hermitage but it would be worth finding out for sure!
……………………….
Have a look at the link, the cottages are north of Hermitage (just north of M4) & Frilsham is east & the find was south of there, so not this one.
MAP
Not actually a video of course. An excellent piece of computer generated imagery.
It has been linked here before, but it is still enjoyable.
Moggy
Yes I know Moggy , but I thought it it might cause a few scratched heads , dam good CGI , just think of the possibility’s of seeing extinct types ‘flying’ now !
Sorry I obviously missed the earlier posting
Good grief,what a wonderful story
Sadly AFAIK it is just a story
Have a look at the WIX discussion for info on who really flew it

From the air from Multimap
Why has it got its front section missing?
http://www.taphilo.com/photo/pictures/lacey-lady.jpg
Ive read the story that goes with it. Very funny! Those were the days eh!
IIRC it was taken of before it fell off , the poor old girl is very corroded apparently.
Who’s story have you read ? the owners/family or the real story 😉
I can go one better…. heres a picture of me stood between my F350 pick up & my open garage door…. Silver car is the ex wifes Corolla…
This is using the “birdseye” option on the Micro$oft thingie
Thats a great pic, please tell me more about ‘micro$oft thingie’ , how much of the planet does it cover ? where can you get it & does it cost $$$$$$
Is there any interest out there in another BBMF hanger visit?
I wouldn’t have thought so , It was so boring see all the aircraft up close 😉
Like you need to ask !
It was very kind of you all last year to give your time to show us all around & it would be wonderful if you did it again.
Thanks
Martin
I know I have seen map in some book somewhere which shows all the end points for the V1 but for the life of me I can’t remember which book it was.. It may have been Bob Ogley’s book on the V1: Doodlebugs and Rockets: Battle of the Flying Bombs
Paul, IIRC there is a map of the sites in Typhoon & Tempest at war, it only shows a small section of south London, still they had many bombs in a small area.
Anywhere else worth seeking out for aviation/military interest
TT,take a spade & diving gear 😉
20 Hurricanes shot done over Sri Lanka & 2 Swordfish in shallow(ish) water.
