(I believe there was also a large dump for crashed aircraft at Cowley, wonder if it would be possible to unearth anything there…)

That would have been where the German (only) aircraft wreckage was collected to/was melted down, I remember seeing pics. The site is now a timber merchants

Glasgow airport has Mosi. parts & merlins buried on site, now built over, under a taxi way or something. (somebody at the DH museum said yes they know when I told them )

In about ’78 there was one in the Staravia spares/scrap yard at Ascot, it was compleat & IIRC looked like it could have started-up & flown out. I dont know what happened to it, one of the survivers ?

    speaking of Blackbush & Dragonfly’s

In about 1972/3 a mate & I used to walk the 5 miles to Blackbush & clamber over the derelict Dragonfly ( ‘s ?, I think their were 2) near the old hangers (as you do as a kid), I think they ended(melted down) up at the scrap yard on the other side of the airfield.

Anybody got any pics of them ?

From Accident-Report.com it was a B-50D, 49-0286 (not 49-286), later converted to a WB-50D. I cant seem to find any more info than that.

The 389th BG did not have a triangle as any Sqd. Tail marking in WWII, would they have added/changed to it after WWII ?

Just a quickie, Stainless exhaust stubs don’t last as long as the steel ones.

I think it was in 1998 or 1999 when Ray Hanna did the first run down the pit lane at Goodwood. He did it again last year at the revival meet press day, not quite so low this time.

Thanks, It would have been ’98-’99 then, as I saw a print for sale at the Festival of speed (framed & I thought well overpriced) 2/3 years ago, I’ll have to have a good look for it again their this year.

Speaking of low passes by Spits. anybody know where I can get a copy of the Spit. that did a very low pass ( below 6′ ?) down the start/finish straight BETWEEN 😮 the grandstands & pits at a Goodwood revival meeting (motorsport) a few years ago ?

In the documentary ‘B25 s (or Mitchell’s, I cant remember) do fly on IMR’ the TV documentary in the early ’80’s on flying 5 B25’s to the UK in ’79 (?) for the film ‘Hanover Street’, I think the final shots are of one or more of the B25’s landing at Little Riss. at night, the flames & popping coming from the exhaust as the engines are throttled back to reduce power on landing are really great to watch for a petrol head like me.

Top Fuel dragsters ( 6000 BHP ) will have 3 foot flames coming from each exhaust pipe ( 1 per cylinder, all pointing up) during a run, a totally spectacular event to watch.

You will get flames from short exhaust pipes/stubs on full power or throttling back (leaning out)

but I heard he’s using an engine block from a crash site? Doesn’t sound very wise to me…

    Steve

I’m surprised that you think a crash site engines are not sensible to use ?

Especially give the ‘donor’ aircraft of this one below!
