anybody checked to see whether their still there ? after all Carlisle is a bit remote, (can dream can’t I)
682al had posted this on the ‘Old UK aircraft scrap’ thread
These are Hurricane centre sections being scavenged for parts before scrapping, in the 1970’s. They had been salvaged from North Shore Demolition (?) in Blackpool, some years previously, by N.A.P.S. The plan was that they would be offered amongst B.A.P.C. groups. For reasons unknown to me, the plan fell through and the frames became a nuisance. They went back to a scrappie…

Maybe they would let it go for a price,
There is a P-61A on display at the Beijing Institute of Aeronautical Engineering in Beijing, China. I am unaware of its serial number. The story of how it got there is sort of interesting. It seems that the 427th Night Fighter Squadron based in China during the war was in preparation for the return home after the end of hostilities. Just as they were were about to leave, some Communist troops came onto the field and ordered the Americans to get out immediately, but to leave their aircraft behind. The Beijing Institute Black Widow may be one of the three P-61Cs seized at that time. It is reported that the Chinese will sell the plane for 2 million dollars, but the wing spar is reportedly so corroded that the aircraft would collapse if moved. There may be other Black Widows in other locations in China.

Yes, I saw a Failsworth firefly forward fuesalage in the Museum of Science and Industry Manchester 10 years ago
Thanks Mark, their great , keep them coming ,
The 4th one is a puzzler, given the scale of the bloke inside, its big, I’ve no idea though
Ok so a few more pics have been posted since I started this reply
Great pic Mark, I agree with David’s comments, fascinating, now I’m waiting for the other 13 pics Mark.
Any pics Steve ?, Staravia at Lasham was before my time & I had never heard of their Church Crookham yard, but I did visit their Ascot & Finchampstead yards. P-39 drop tanks still in crates in Ascot in the late ’70s ! Managed to ‘rescue a RCAF F-86 tail resplendent with its Tigers head Sqd motif. I also ‘found’ a new P-80 (yes P & not F) U/C door at Finchampstead amongst 1000’s of other brand new parts just before it was all lost in a fire 10 years ago.I was told that they also had a yard in Wales, but that had been raided & cleared out for scrap by gipsies
Spelling mistake there Mark ? maybe it should have been MORON. So what was the problem, did she want too much money ? you did get some Griffons out dident you ?
Yes Flood
I saw the roundish canopy with the offset vent/signal window & thought Canberra cockpit, I fell asleep for most of the film it was that good
Mark
Have you seen these Belgian target tug pics. you probably have but just in case.

Its spring 1948 & a Swedish goodwill visit to the Linton-on-Ouse Hornet wings 64 & 65 sqn’s. A month or so Later 64 & 65 sqn Hornets made a reciprocal visit to Sweden, apparently not a lot of flying was done over there as the Swede’s showed them a little toooooo much hospitality.

Does the 16 indicate a Sqn No. ?
