From the ‘British military prototypes and research aircraft 1946 to date’ web site ‘click here’
    Ya-7 single seater prototype
    YA-8 3 seater pototype
both with Griffons due to Mamba shortages
    YB-1 Mamba prototype
    So it looks like WB788

I didn’t view your Concorde thread as I had heard (& saved) that & other Concorde cometary’s before from the SST site & yes I think it is historic. As for the No. of ‘view’s of a thread, well the counter cannot be relied on because when I first viewed this thread there were no previous views ‘0’, after viewing & going to another web site I come back & it still shows NO views, so it hadn’t counted mine & maybe others ‘view’s, so this might also apply to other threads as well.

As for what I would like to see, mine main interest is military props, I find the scrapyard threads fascinating, the stories/info & the pics yourself, cestrian & others have posted is fantastic, restoration progress, ‘finds’ & how they came about, & anything else related, basically just more of the forum as it is

A BIG thanks to all who contribute to this forum.

About 4/5 years ago I was in conversation with somebody at Elvington, he said that while (a couple of years earlier, so maybe ’96-’97 ?)digging for/collecting Mosquito parts from a gravel pit near South Cerney (Cirencester) that they came across a few Typhoon engine bulkheads & other bits. I asked how come they were there he said that Mosquito & Typhoon’s had been scrapped at South Cerney & some parts were then dumped in the nearby gravel pit. I got the impression that the Typhoon parts were left there as they as they were only interested in the Mosie bits. Would restorers do this ? Anybody know about the recovery of the Mosquito parts & were the Typhoon parts left there ?

I think thats a SeaHornet undercarriage bay, if you look at Mark12’s 2nd Swift pic you can see the same pile at a different time/angle, Marks pic. has 2 undercarriage bays & no Provost tailplane. Were parts moved around the yard much ? as so far there have been 3 Hornet (probably) undercarriage bays in the pics.

Thanks for the pics. Gerry, especially the last one containing both of the finest (production) piston engined fighters ever made.

Air Enthusiast mag. did an article on Spartan Air Services 3/4 years ago, IIRC it detailed the history of SeaHornet TT193 along with Colour pics of the Mosie’s & maybe the Hornet

I had wondered about that pic. Re. Hornet. It had to be twin engined, I just hadent checked against a detailed pic of a compleat Hornet, In your 2nd Swift pic. there is another U/C bay the same. So maybe the complete aircraft was scatered around the yard ? if so that would have made it the last one in existence & not the Chichester/Westhampnet one in the late ’60’s

Thanks for that guys, I should have pics somewhere, buried in unsorted boxes of all my other aircraft & automotive pics. One day I might come across them.

The flying Spitfire at the D*ck Melton open day at Popham sometime ’89-’91 had a small plaque riveted on the inside of the cockpit door that read something like ‘owned by Raynard Motorsports’ & I dont think it was a Mk XVIII

Are you serious ? what 100’s of aircraft all over the country ? do you have funds of say £25,000 for a small common WWII trainer ? eg a T-6 / Harvard or £90,000 for a P-39N Airacobra (that’s to buy it, you then need maybe £500,000 to get it flying)
    P-39 Airacobra
or maybe a Seafire project for £750,000
    Seafire project
Have you just won the Lottery maybe, if so well done, how can I help 🙂
