Hi Hatton,
When you get to Beantown(Boston) you must take a ride by Fenway Park and stop by the Bull and Finch (the Tv show Cheers bar)
Just South of Boston at Stow is The Collings foundation pop over to the Wix board and ask ryan to hook you up with a tour well worth the stop.
Also must go down to Boston harbor to see Old Ironside and the Bunkerhill Memorial.
When you get to Beantonw lets us know their are few of us New Englanders who could meet u with you at Stow’s.
Cheers

Please can someone put me out of my misery? The Neptune at Cosford is a P-2-V? I’ve bee wondering about this for a while now so I deecided to ask. Are there any features that distinguish say a P2V5 from a P2V7?
Hi Mike,
The differance between a -5 and a -7 is the following and they are very easy to notice.
On the -7 the Glass above the cockpit is raised like a bubble while on the -5 its flat.
Also the MAD is a tad smaller on the -5 then on the -7, the nose glass on the -7 is a two peice united while some of the -5 had a four peice unit.
The -5 had only 8 hard points while the -7 had 12 and the -7 had two searchlight while the -5 had only one.
Hope this helps.

Not an English type, it’s a French aircraft i believe, Dassault Toofani.
best regards, steve
Steve thanks,
So what is it a bomber, trainer ect.
Hi All,
Quick question since I’m lacking on English types what is a Toofani.
Thanks
Propstrike,
That is exactly what Scott is doing on the Warbird Resource Group main web site if you visit it will find it broken down to aircraft types.
I’m presentaly working on the Century fighters I know that their is someone working on Navions and Scott is going thru the T-6 files. If you are interested in working on the site send Scott and e-mail I’m sure he would be more then happy for any help. Just pick an aircraft and dive in he has a master file set up all you have to do is impute the information and paste.
So what became of the spanish casa fleet. Were they all scrapped in the end or have any made their ways to a museum ?
All where scrap after the movie was completed but I think maybe two or three where set aside for musuems.
When my Dad was station in Rota durning the early 70s their was two hulks that where used for fire training not sure what happen to them. Wasn’t their a rumor that a dump had been found in Spain that contain some of the Casa or was that Portugal and Casa build Ju-52s.
Apart from the two that came to the UK, did any of the Heinkels actually leave Spain during the BoB film window?
Mark
Hi Mark12,
Acourding to The Battle of Britain the Making of a film by Leonard Mosley,
15 aircraft where sent to France for some film work and then 6 where flown to outside of Spain it really doesn’t say where and why. But in the opening chapter of the book it talks about the arrivial of the Heinkels and 109 on May 14 . It seems that they got a tad off course and decide to take an aerial tour of Cambridge University 😀
Anyone know how many “1-111’s” were used? Looks a lot in the film. Wonder what happened to all the flyers (apart from the one already mentioned)
Hi Der,
The answer to your question is the Spanish Air Force loan to the film company
50 Heinkels and Hamish was able to buy 28 Messerschmitts along with a number of spares from the Spanish Air force Scrap Yard.
After the movie all but 6 where sent back to Spain only one is close to be airworthy this would be the ex-Tallichete aircraft.
Hi Robbelc,
To give you an idea how many aircraft Doug had his hand in, between him and David Tallichet they are responsible for close to 400 aircraft saved.
Doug was a visionair person when it came to doing recoverys, he was the first to save alot of the WWI/between the War Englaish aircraft and single handly rescue close to 20+ Spitfire which in my opion seem to be his passion.
I beleive we will never see the likes of these two Gaints of the Warbird Communtie again.
One of the goals of the my book on the early collectors is to have an index of everything the major collectors owned.
OK,
How about this Question then maybe its time for the GD Forum to be axe then since it has been causing the Mods and the Webbie alot of Heart Ack.
Really this is an Aviaiton driven forum and the person problems of memebers should be in the open. It seems that the GD Forum has become a battle ground for this.
Arthor,
I think you might be suprised at how many folks might want to be a Mod if they know its only going to be for a certain length of time. Plus you must be tired of all the Flame Wars that go on the Modern Military Forum, I have a 20 spot that said you wouldn’t mind taken a break from that BS.
Look I’m not trying to start a this person isn’t doing the job lets sack him/her thing but it was ask not by me but by atleast five others including two Mods about holding new elections.
Hi Dave,
No it wasn’t flown in, in fact it stood at a museum in the States for many years literally rotting away! The Lib was shipped to Duxford, and the work carried out on this airframe is a testament to Duxford’s conservation team, a first class piece of work! You’re right in saying it wasn’t there in 93, it went on display in the American Air Museum in 2003.
Planejunky,
No it wasn’t just roting away in some Museum it wa on outside display as Dave Burke at Lackland AFB TX which is a very dry climat. Have had the chance to visit the aircraft a few times before the big Steal 😡 the aircraft was in better counditin then alot of the stuff that DX has sitting outside.
This is still a very sore subject with alot of folks here in the States, alot of us feel that if they could build a Fiberglass copy for Lackland then why not just send Duxford the Copy make one for Lackland and then seel or trade the 24 to the Warbird Community. This 24 was the last 24 in USAF service used as a Weather Bird.

Why do you keep calling Melv by a girls name?
Because here in the States Mel is short for Melvyn thats why
Great book, classic stuff….only have a chapter of it in ‘Rag wings and Heavy Iron’, but have read it before and it’s hilarious….well worth whatever you pay for it.
Mark
Mark,
Yea Martin was one of a kind had the chance to fly with him when he still owned the JU-52 such fun.
If anyone wants to read a great book pick up Rag Wing and Heavy Iron its a great book on the early US Warbird movement.
