Hi,
It appears to be a Nieuport Monoplane and if so the two Gentlemen are Charles and Edourd de Nieuport.

Ok Guys,
Here is one to mess up everything,
If I had the following parts to a DR1
Tail Feathers
Land Gear Both Main and Tail Skid
La Rhomes Engine and Right Prop
4 of the Five Wings Missing right middle
All the Cockpit parts
Original Guns and feeders
Engine Mount and all the Tin
Ok so I decide to rebuild a DR1 with the above items and I’m using all original items and drawings to construct the Fusl.
So what do I have a Rebuild or a Repilca, I say a Rebuild becasue I have over 60% of an aircraft.
RER
Hi All,
Well let me jump into this as someone who as had a hand in restroing three HISTORIC AIRCRAFT.
When My Father and I rebuild my old Tiger Moth we start out with basically a tube airframe and some rather tattered Wings. We rebuild the plane using original wood IE New wood but the kind used in the original construction, we also used Grade A Linnen yes it cost a bit more but I want it to be as close to the original. Now for the Cockpit we installed a transponder and a small radio for SAFETY. So does this make are Moth Non-Hisrorical because we choose to install some safety items.
The way I see it is this way just has long as you try to use the right materials when avaible then its a True rebuild.
I have a question for all of you I was ask by a friend of mine to help him build a WWI aircraft he has a refurbished WWI Instrument, he has a complete Tail feathers,Landing Gear and a Top Wing plus alot of bits and peices, He plans on using the original type wood along with Grade A Cotton so what are you going to call hos aircraft a replica or a rebuild to original standers. My thought is the later.
Overt to you guys.

Its a PV-1 or PBO-1 depending on the service.
I would say be the age it was a prop. add from either Time or Life my guess would be Life.
The style of apinting fites into their period adds, is their anything on the back side of the painting and also is their an artist name on the painting.

I finally purchased this superb book via ebay last year, its by far the most expensive book i have ever purchased. If you ever see a copy, buy it.
Septic.
Hi All,
Another of Martin books to have if you don’t have is,
Ragwing and Heavy Iron,
The book details the purchase of his Ju-52 Iron Annie and also has stuff on the B-17 flight plus it gives you and inside to the early warbird movement as it goes from a Good Old Boy Club to a serious adventure, I highley recommend it to anyone.
Cheers

Rob: It was there when I left Indiana last year but the wood was long gone and there were a few metal fittings Landing Gear, Rudder petals, that were salvageable and the fuselage would make would make a good template for new construction.
Hi Wrenchbender,
Could you please e-mail me at b25j@maine.rr.com, I know someone who could use the PT.
Thanks Crazymainer
[QUOTE=Wrenchbender
That is my neck of the woods Rob, it was called Freeman field down by French lick, Indiana. I was down there several times and all they found were a few parts and some at a local dump. There is the remains of a PT-19 in a local forest that was dumped for the civil air patrol to find
Freeman field yes that the place, if I remember right they found all sorts of Germand stuff including a complete Fin some engines and other bits and peices.
Now for the PT-19 is it still thier and could we swap it for a Spam Can.
Also Wrenchbender it looks like we are going to try to have some sort of gathering in Nov with the North East Wix patrol just a heads up.
Cheers Crazymainer
As a side note regarding my flippancy about the usual urban myths, is there any single instance where this has been known to be the case. i.e. it really did happen? Or is it like the Holy Grail type thing where tails of buried treasure always exist but don’t necessarily have any basis in facts?
Skypilot,
I can think of three here in the States.
1) Lex Crally yes the same person who just beat the US Navy over the Brewester Corsiar found a rather large collection of Buried german items at a field in a Mid-West State here US I can’t remember the name of the Field but the USAF used it for capture German Evos.
2) Chino Calf. two or three years ago they started to do a enlargment on the airport and unearth a pit containing A-20 parts, P-40,P-47 parts along with other items.
3) At NAS Charlston back in the mid-70s three Corsairs two ADs and bits a nd peices of varoius other navy Aircraft were dug up.

OK A Yank view
Hi All,
Have just read all of thr post on this thread an knowing alittle about preservation. First these poor misgiude soles should be taken to the Vulcan camp and say if you want to some thing to fly this is the plane not a Bloody Airliner.
I really feel sorry for all the musuems that have been sadle with these White Elephants it seems to me that they are drainig money and time from items that should have a more higher priorty then them.
Here in the States we have this desert Air Field that is full of long and forgotten Airlines including are the last DC-8s, Convair 770/880 do you hear any of us screaming to put them back in the Air Hell No why because its not Cost doesn’t make since.
maybe we should contact these people and have them read these post and have a talk with us who operate large aircraft and explain to them this is a pipe dream and they should re-direct the enegery towards helping with the ground airframes.
As for being put back in Air Service I know that here in the States their Certific for Airworthness was cancel two weeks after the last flight. To get it reissue would be next impossiable now.
If anyone really wants to put a Concord Style Aircraft in the Air they should come up with something that can cut 15 hours off the Pacific Flights.
Well thats my 2cents.

Germany woulfd have put
Ann Dear,
German had won the war if it was a quick and lighting one and if the Russians could have been neutralized.
With that said alot of stuff in aviation would have been stunt or not even happen. IE Air Combat as we know and The Belcke Dictate would never had happen nore aerobatic manovers like the Immelmann and outside loop would ahve been father down the road. Plus the develpoment of faster aircraft and engines would have stagnated to a grinding hault.
Cheers Crazymainer
I wonder how much it would cost to own a warbird T-33? In my opinion, it’s a perfect warbird plane. Fast, agile, very aerobatic, and a legend in its own time. Plus it was based on the F-80, which was the first operational USAF jet.
Hi Phantom,
Is not the operational Cost that would kill you but the Insurance mind you I remind you of the Sacromental Ice Cream Palore crash.
You might want to pm Mr. Patterson and ask him what it cost him to operate his Mig.-17 here in the States.
Cheers Crazymainer
Yak11,
The standard color was Matt black I’ll try to dig up a color chart I have, The Air Corp was Matt Black and I think the US Navy was Standard Black not sure what that is called now adays tho.

Now the Real reason
OK AVM Parker,
The Real Reason you are going to Nam is to try to find that Package you sent to me before you left to go to Jolly Good Old England. :p :diablo:
Oh yea their was something about Bearcats and Japaness Aircraft that you and I talk about alos but it just seems that I can’t remember what it was funny that way 😮
I’ll call you at work later today or tommorow.
Cheers The Col.
Hi Guys,
The plane Id for FAA/RN was always on the side of the aircraft while the Air Wing/ Carrier Id was on the Cowling. I ran into a problem sometime back with a wreck TBF here in Maine that had a J on the side but a R on its cowling it took me sometime and reading to figuer it out.
You all might want to send this to a one of the photo experts at FAA museum I’m sure they could give the answer quicker.
Skypilot is their any way you can blow up the front of the Wildcat with out it going on blury if not see if you can check the nose using Photo Shop paint and see what the letter code is on the Cowling should be in the same place as the TBFs.
Well its off to work got to make all those great sandwhichs my shop is note for 😮
Cheers Crazymainer
Incidentally, the Operations Officer of the 379th at the time was a Lt Col Louis ‘Rip’ Rohr. A relation I believe of a certain member of our little congregation who writes from Maine each evening.
Cheers
Andy
Hi Andy,
Now who could tha happen to be :p speaking of Col. Rohr if everything goes right I’m going to be seeing his daughter over the Hoildays.
