Hi Papa,
Can I play or since I own a Restaurant and know Who this person is and the Famous Bi-Plane, I’m not allowed.

No. 30 raised an eyebrow. Engine blown away by the wind??!
Hi DamienB,
The PB4Y was blown about 20 feet back into a group of aircraft when this happen the #3 engine still chain to the ground came off.
Over on the Wix board is a thread called overhead shot of Pensacola there is a photo of the engine.
All and All guys this could have been alot worse.
Because of Ivan the Navy meeting that I was working on has been post-pon till the spring. There are no Hotel rooms, the hotel that we were going to have the conferance in, well Buddy told me on Wensday it still has four feet of SAND 😮 in the room we were going to us.

Giys its……………
OK Guys,
Your not reading past post,
So lets review, the wind tunnel is the Washington Naval Yards Tunnel,
Its not a Curtis , Wright or Martin design.
It is a US builded aircraft.
Cheers Crazymainer
It aint ………………
I’m really proud about myself for getting the tunnel right! 😀
It was the only rectangular in the States (besides those very early shoeboxes), but the photo can’t be pre-ww1 since the tunnel was built in 1916 (well, depends on what side of the ocean you’re sitting).
Darn! Shouldn’t be too hard to find a twin-engined biplane with multiple floats!
From the start I had a feeling, that this seaplane is British, but I’ll keep digging …Is it an Astra, or a Bleriot? Might be a Breguet.
Sorry Distiller,
Its US Build.
Don’t worry guys it took my Dad two weeks to get it and a guy at The Naval History Center who is a expert in these things a week. 😮 😀
Cheers Crazymainer
is it a wright or an eary boeing?
Sorry but niether companys.
Well I’m off to the Gallery for the day I’ll check in 7ish EST tonight to see if anyone can collect their shirt.
Cheers Crazymainer
OK Guys
Hi Guys and Gals,
OK yes the plane is pre-WWI and yes the Tunnel is Washington the Naval Yard Tunnel. Which by the way still exist somewhere I’lll dig up my photos I took of it 20 years ago.
Now back to the plane its not build by Curtis. 😮

Hey Arm Waver
Hi Arm Waver,
happy B-day,
As for the photos Makr12 I would say Hendon also circ.late 1960s.
Cheers Crazymainer
Stormbird, you obviously have not lost someone close to you who was flying in one of these aircraft. The loss of the crew’s lives makes losing the airframes pale into insignificance.
Paul,
Yes I have to agree have lost to many good friends to accidents you never get over it.
Crazymainer
Hi Chris,
I wqouldn’t say a true 1:1 ratio but very close remember this aircraft were very light and with a big Round Engine up front you can with the right power setting you could do this. Also you must take in account that these Airships were rather large and under the right counditions you could almost get a near dead stable air.
This can be done if you are into Jumping out of aircraft I was up for a jump out of a C-130 and the Jump Master told me he was going to fly formation with the 130. 😮 What he did was jump and let the Ground Effect out the Rear Door pull him under the Tail where he flew in formation, the craziest thing i’ve ever saw. I try to do it a few times but could never get it my body weight would not let me stay in one position.
So basically what the Curtis are doing is what the Jump Master was doing.
I hope this explains it somewhat.
Cheers Crazymainer
Here You Go TNZ
Hi TNZ,
Here you go,

The Airship is the USS Macon ZRS-5 the aircraft about to hock up is a Curtis F9C-1
The three in formation are F9C-1 the other is a F9C-2 about to hock up to the USS Akron ZRS-4
Cheers Crazymainer
The Photo is….
Hi TNZ,
The photo was taken on Jan. 11 1928, its the first landing on the USS Saratoga CV-3 the pilot was non other then CDR. Marc A. Mitscher the Air Officer for Air Wing 3.
The UO-1 was one of the first Naval Aircraft to recieve Oleo shock-absobing landing gear other aircraft to receive these were the NB-1, FB-1 and the SC-2.
