    This needs to stop now

    OK Guys,

I’m going to jump into this before it gets way out of hand like the last time we had a thread like this.

We can go around and around with this subject I do every day with the three Russian Kids that work for me so I know the whole BS behind it.

As for the thread topic Yes the Russians would have wipe the Japs off the face of the Earth.

So I think maybe one of are Moderators should lock this thread before people get hurt.

    The Facts are Straight

As the Corsair first flew on May 1st 1940 according to the above link, or May 29th 1940 according to British Naval Aircraft since 1912, that would be extremely difficult.

    Ok Guys,

Here we go, from the NAVAIR 00-80P-1

    F4U

Contract 6/30/38 First Flight 5/29/40 Last deliever 1/53

First Squadron VF-12 10/3/42 First modern fighter production model to exceed 400mph in straight level flight.

So I guess once agina Marks thread title is right

The Mossie was develope to be a mediom bomber not a fighter that came latter.

    Guys you are missing………

    Hey Guys,

You are all missing the point, all of the other aircraft you guys have mention were either Seaplane Racers or specialy build Aircraft to go after the Speed Records. The Corsair was the first Production Aircraft to exceed 400 MPH in Level Flight. Yes other earlier fighters Spit, Hurri and 109 did exceed 400 in a dive but thats just it it was done in a dive not straight and level.

So Marks thread title is right the orsair was the first plane to break 400mph. 😀

By 1943 the Soviets were in a much better position to fight a two front war than the Japanese were. The Soviets would probably have taken longer to get into berlin, which would have enabled D-Day to be postponed a couple of years, but then the Soviets and Chinese might have taken all of Korea, instead of just half and a lot more asian countries too.
The Soviets didn’t have the navy to invade Japan itself, but it would have been heavily bombed for a much longer period.
This would have shortened the war in Asia, but probably added a year or two to the war in Europe.

    Gary,

I will have to agree with you on this 😮 but I think that a second front you Europe might have come sooner.

Japan launching air strikes from Hokkaido and using what remains of their carrier force

    Hey F-18 Hamburger,

I hate to throw a wrench into this idea but by mid-45 the Japanees had no operational Carriers, they had two Heavy Carriers both heavely damage and three or four Light Carriers all of these were under staff and with out any Air Wing.

Without checking exact dates, I’d say the Marlin and Neptune are both from the same time period…though the later Marlin with the “T” tail does look newer than the P-2. It’s basic design is immediate post war but it’s an evolution of the WWII Martin Mariner.

    Hi John,

Here are the P2V and P5M dates

    P2V Contract 2/19/43 first flight 5/17/45 First Squadron VP-ML-2 3/47
    P5M Contract 6/26/46 first flight 4/30/48 First Squadron VP-44 4/23/52

    TurboNZ,

Yes the first one is a Curtis but its not a F-5 keeping trying. :diablo:

Yes it was taken over Manila, they were station at Subic Bay, during NAM they would fly Hammer Patrols up and down the South China Sea looking for shipping heading into NAM.

    Hi Turbo,

Thats why Don put that type of prop on I really don’t think it help out much since the rest of the plane wasn’t slick up in any way shape or form.

Just another Question on the H I don’t recall the RAF flying H models if so when and were there weren’t alot of these things made and they spent most of their time bouncing from Active to Researve to Guard units.
