    David T.

    Hi Dave,

Not only is David still alive but he is the only B-17 pilot that is still flying a Fortress mind you he has another person with him in the Cockpit.

I had a chance to sit down and interview him at Genesseo for the book I’m working on about the Early Warbird Collectors.

I spent over a three day period about 9 hours talking with him. We talk alot about the PNG recoverys and I’m presently putting the items together for a upcomming story.

I know alot of us have harped on David and some of his deallings but between him and Doug Arnold it can be saftly said that 1/3 of the know warbird Survivers are directly because of these two Men.

As for how does david fly these days lets say he still likes to land the 17 like he’s coming back from Berlin. A long Downwind with a VERY 😮 Short Base line up with the Outer Marker find the Numbers and then Hit the Numbers with a Very short roll out and then off the Runway.

What are you trying to get yourself Banned from Duxford with those Fighting Comments 😀 , we all know that the R2800 and R3650 were a far Superior Crafted Engine :p .

Boy are they alot easier to work on then those English items  .

Thats why the FAA/RN accept are Lovely Chance-Vought Corsair with its very powerfull engine, but of coarse are CommenWealth Cousins had to get used to that big Torqie thing up front. :p 😉

    Hi All,

OK this is what I have found out today, first its going to an Americain owner, second it came out of PNG dump were it was discoverd in one of the old dumps. Their is also another 61 that was in the same dump that is said to being made ready for departure to the States.

The plane was uncovered about 6 months ago and has been keep in a rather secret location on PNG along with some other items. I will work on what the other stuff are over the next few days.

    Hi Snakeman,

Do you have a year and month that this accident happen and do you know which Group it belong to. Also if you had a name of one or more of the crew it would be helpful.

    Hi All,

This is what I know it appears to be about 80% complete airframe, we think it was burried.

As Setter posted it was in a faded All-Black paint, when we were talking about it we don’t think it came out of PNG. Some of the parts look to been underground for some time.

Setter said that the airframe look as good or even alittle better then the MAAM airframe when it came out.

I’ll be doing some investegating over the next couple of days to see if I can pin-point were it was heading. Since it left by ship finding the cargo manaf. should’nt be to hard. If its come to the States there are only a few ports that get large Cargo ships.

    B-29s

    Hi All,

The B-29 field would be the one in China, this was the first place that the 29 operated out of.

As for the OD paint on the 29 the first 30 or so were painted with OD these all came from the Witchata plant.

Also this is the same field that the two 29 ended up in Russia came from.

Broke with a very sick engine

Listed in the programme for the flying display was the Gannet T5 which would have been very nice to see but as mentioned on these boards is still in the USA.

    Any updates anybody ??

    Hi Spey111,

I was talking with Mike Rawson two nights ago and the Gannet came up, it appears that she might be there for awhile since the engine crap out and their really aren’t many spars to be found.

    Hope this helps.

    Cheers

    Septic,

Lovely photo, its just a shame the Red Bull has to put their Bloody names all over the plane s they own, maybe someone should explain to them about correct paint.

I know before anyone starts they own it so they can do what they wan’t thread its a sham and thats my PERSONAL THOUGHTS

    Yak Fan,

If its Kermits plane which it appears to be, it was owned at the time of the photo by Ron Fechney and Jack MacDonald from Aylesbury. They sold it to John Schaffhausen of Spokane WA. Kermit bought it from Gene Stocker in 1979.

I beleive this was one of Kermits first warbirds.

    Hi Guys,

Since we beat the hell out of DX 24 the other plane they have on display I would like to see return to this side of the Pond is the B-29 you guys have their.

Really now don’t we all think it would look better in the air flying formation with FiFi. I’m sure we could find a nice Cockpit section the could be put on display.
