    So Guys,

We can state we have one which we are 99% sure is Da Quake and we have atleast one other of is it two others sitting on the beach near were 633 was.

If thats so then why hasn’t a team been out looking for the other one or two. Surely its not to hard of a job since the general location of the crash sites are know.

    Hi All,

So the real Da Quak is still out their then why not get a crew together and start looking for her. I guessing now that if its in soft sand the location shoild be know and it should be a rather easy recovery.

This sounds like a job for the Flypast Forum Recovery Team, time awasting folks 😀

Now seroiuslly is the location know and if so what are the chances for a recovery.

    T.J,

The 24 In Quebec is the one that Tom Reilly try to import from Labador, he got permission from the land owner and from the Canadian Gov. but the Quebec Gov. stop them saying that it was a Cultrual item of Canadia.

The short of this story is that this was a USAAF bird that got lost on its way to Blue’2. I rather not get into the Geo-Politics of my friend to North. 😀

As for the LB-30 this is owned by World Jet, this plane is located somewhere in Colorado. Its been advertised a few times but its in rough shape.

While we are on the subject of 24 there is the LB-30 located in Alaska plus a a D model 40-2367 that is also in Alalska. Then their is 42-41091 at Faita PNG along with another unknow aircraft at Faita.

    Hope this helps TJ

Please go back and read my first post

    David, John,

In my first post about the 24, their was a group of people who were willing to step in and buy the 24 from the USAF and also pay for the fiberglass Copy for both Lackland and Duxford.

This plane of all of the USAF 24 outside of Strawberry Bitch was the most complete. This was the last Operational 24 in the USAF service and could have been put back into the air in two to three years.

We are not going to change each other views I along with other would like to have this plane back and you both think its great to have it at Duxford.

    So lets move on OK

Out of all the B-24’s in the U.S.A how many are actually flying? I suggest the percentage is rather low. It could
even be that the numbers airworthy actually reflects the demand.
As for fibreglass with the greatest of respect the people who inspect the B-24 can touch and examine her at close quarters. The people who visit Duxford go there because it’s an aircraft museum essentially.

    David,

There is three Airworthy 24 Collings Foundation J model, CAF LB-30, Kermit Weeks J model is airworthy sort of but hasn’t flow for a few years.

Now for survivers there was’nt much use for 24 after the war most were scrapped, while the 17 was used in varoius roles.

David I spent two year has a Vollenteer with the Collings foundation and I can tell you from first hand experaince that haven a 24 Vet walk throu the 24 and touch and tell his grandchildern that this is were I work during WWII is such a moving sight.

I’ve also have talked with many 24 Vets. who thank us everytime we bring the planes around so they can touch the plane, many of them say its said that most of the surviving 24 are safetly stuffed away in musuems.

Now you must admit would’nt a flying DX 24 do more good then it sitting collecting dust.

As you state the folks that go to DX is because its an Air Museum so who care if its a Fiberglass Copy they are not their to claimer all over her now are they. They just want to get a pretty phot for their scrap book.

Oh I forgot at least three other 24/LB-30 that can be recovered two in PNG and one in Alaska.

    YanFan,

    The 3 other 24 are

The PB4Y-1 recover out of the Everglades

The B-24J sitting in exile in Quebec(lets not start this thread again)

The LB-30 Meat Hauler owned by a private person.

Now of the above three the LB-30 was offered to the USAFM but they didn’t like the trade counditions

I think the PB4Y has gone to Hill AFB

As for DX getting a fiberglass rep. question can you walk throught the 24 if so then Ok let them have a Real one but if its just sitting to collect dust then let a FLYING MUSEUM have it and let everyone enjoy it inside and out. 😀

If you look through your history books you will see that those aircraft played a major part in shaping history and were at the time based in the UK. England was the last home to many of your fellow countrymen.[/QUOTE]

    Yakfan,

What about all of the Pacific Vets who flew 24s, the USAF/USN?USMC operated them in the pacific far more then the B-17.

Besides last night I sat down and came up with three other airframes that could have gone to Duxford, including a LB-30 that was used as a Meat Hauler.

    Hi Glen,

If my memories don’t fail me this 51 was found near the Coastal Plains of Normandy.

The story goes if my Gray Matter doesn’t fail is the pilot experiance an engine problem due to gunfirer(Never hapens to Round Engines :p ) and put it down in the surf where it sat tell a Channal Storm un-earth her.

The last thing I heard its on display at the French Air Museum in her present coundition.

I’m sure that SwissMustang will give you more info. 😀

Yes But it was originally Build for the USA

    Mark12,

Yes but if you go back and read its card histort you will see it was build for the USAAF and then transfeer to the RAF then to India.

Matter of fact all of the Ex-India bird were build for the USAAF before being transferred to the RAF.

Who really care I just want the Bloody 24 back here in the States so it could be seen flying, I would settle for it to be Flown over there with Sally-B and the French 17 thou.

    YAM has a PB4Y

    John, Mark12

YAM does indeed have a Fort Worth Build PB4Y it was a crash bird that was given to them but it can never be put back into the Air because of the Main Spar was bent.

Now who is going to see a 24 more YAM who would fly it all over the States and Canadia or Duxfords Ground Ponder.

As for a mtter of interest the Collings Foundation 24 is seen by close to 2 million people a year. 😮 So another flier would have been great here in the STATEs were most of the Ex-24 guys live.

Plus just think of the Formation of three 24 and the LB-30 😀 😎

The point is that the 24 could have should have stay in the States and Duxford should have the Fiberglass one. :p

    Hi Peter,

Well the last thing I heard was that David Tallichete was trying to put together a group to go down and recover her for the USAFM.

But a certain person in Aussieland put a Monkey Wrench into the whole thing.

The main problem is the Gov. doesn’t exist in any form we would call a Gov., their are talks that I’ve heard from US Dept. Of State that they might declare Swamp Ghost a UNSCOE Artifact. If this happens then in theary they could go down and recover her without the PNG Gov. permission.

Sorry its not alot of information put I hope it helps some what.

    Cheers
